  • The estate

    Château Pontet Canet

This well-known Médoc estate is named after its creator, Jean-François Pontet and an adjoining Canet. In 1855 he received the status of Grand Cru Classé ranked by Napoleon III. The Chateau has since bee passed into the hands of only one other family before being bought by Guy Tesseron. It is his son Alfred who directs it today and who converted it into a biodynamic Chateau

  • Jean-Michel Deluc says

Recently, some forward thinking changes have taken Chateau Pontet-Canet to the very summit of Bordeaux; an admirable story in a region known more for tradition than innovation. A 5th growth Chateau in 1855, this estate led by the Tesseron family are undoubtedly at the level of the 2nd growths today. Their Grand Vin from the 2008 vintage is a perfect example; rich, yet completely balanced. 10 years old and singing beautifully!

    • Eye : The wine is still a deep ruby in colour, and only just fading to garnet towards the rim. Youthful!
    • Nose : The wine is evolving and utterly classic, with aromas of ripe red and black fruits, graphite, smoke, mocha and licorice.
    • Mouth : The palate is surprisingly rich yet fresh, with flavours of ripe black fruits, mint, licorice and a rustic, earthy flavour. Excellent!
