An expert's opinion

A Côtes-du-Marmandais! I adore finding great wines from lesser appellations, particularly when they contain unique grape varieties such as this wine, which has a large component of Abouriou. Close to Bordeaux in style with subtle complexity and real structure, this is a real discovery!

The estate

Château de Beaulieu

For over 25 years, Château de Beaulieu has been managed and ran by Agnès and Robert Schulte, with the help of Marc Quertinier. Their 30 hectares of vines are tended in a way that allows for a maximum expression of terroir, and the resulting wines are distinguished, elegant and characterful. The estate has a history going back as far as the 12th century, and there are even stories of Henri IV staying here for a time!
