    Château de Jau

    Located in the east Pyrenees, Château de Jau is run by the Dauré family. The Dauré brothers, Jean and Bernard, were pioneers in wine tourism setting up the first winery restaurant in the 1970’s. Today, their children are carrying the torch adding a resolutely modern touch with a great deal of creativity. The labels are fabulous, featuring animals and would be great for collectors.

    There are days when I love royalty. This vintage completely confirms it. Already, the first vintage is superb, but wait for a shock, or more so a delight for your taste buds. Made mainly from Syrah with some Mourvèdre and supplemented with Grenache, this “haute couture” vintage is anthemic of the Vins du Roussillon. For several decades, Château de Jau has qualitatively proven the value of the region in general and the Agly Valley in particular. The monks who founded Jau in the 12th century were onto something. The complexity of the soils, in addition to the winds from the north and marine influences, has made Jaujau 1er one of the best wines that I have been given to taste this year. Love at first sight!

    • Eye : A blue-black coloured wine due to its concentration, with violet reflections during its youth. This helps to present its density as well.
    • Nose : The nose presents finesse and a side of sophistication all at once. The blend of black fruits is extraordinary and the toasted and spiced notes melt together.
    • Mouth : Pure velvet on a voluptuous and finely spiced blend. The balance and structure is simply perfect.
