    Lar de Paula

A wine-maker and the son of a wine-maker! Fernando Meruelo has been in wine since he could walk and is now the happy owner of Lar de Paula, his own estate created in 2005. Based in Elvillar, one of the highest villages in La Rioja at 583 metres above sea level, the altitude allows for Tempranillo with wonderful freshness and great balance. A new image for Rioja!

  • Jean-Michel Deluc says

Tempranillo is my favourite red grape variety in Spain, and Rioja is undoubtedly an appellation that continues to surprise and delight the wine industry. This is definitely the case as far as Lar de Paula is concerned and no surprises here, it's heavily based on Tempranillo! Complex and balanced, born of the specific climate found in Rioja Alavesa between the Mediterranean and the Atlantic.Needless to say, I love it!

    • Eye : The wine has a ruby colour with violet highlights. A very youthful wine only just softening towards the rim.
    • Nose : On the nose the wine is fine and delicate at first, then opens up with more robust black fruits, light smoke, spices and a little licorice after some time in the glass
    • Mouth : On the palate, the texture of the wine is incredibly velvety. The flavour profile is dominated by flavours of black and red fruits, vanilla and pepper lasting well into the finish.
