An expert's opinion

What a lovely surprise this is!

I love the south of Italy and the wines made here from indigenous grape varieties; without them, the wines wouldn't have the same unique character. Soft, fruity and utterly charming with a dark, energetic feel. A delicious effort from the famous Vini Coppi, and I'm certain you'll love it as much as I have! From the sun-kissed fruit to the powdery tannins, this is a very complete wine.

The estate

Vini Coppi

Lisia, Miriam and Doni, siblings of the Coppi family, have been in and around wine since they could walk. Their father, Antonio Coppi, is a real wine lover and has passed this passion onto them through the years, handing over the reins for them to run the estate. Unsurprisingly, new energy has brought new ideas but the rustic, Italian spirit remains unchanged and their goal is simple; to produce good, honest wine that complements Italian cooking.

  • Eye There's some evolution here, with the youthful ruby fading to orange, suggesting a maturing wine! Quite striking.

  • Nose On the nose there's a lot of ripe, slightly jammy fruits such as blackberry, blackcurrants and figs, with some rocky minerality coming through after a little aeration.

  • Mouth On the palate this is soft and silky, with the same ripe fruit intensity yet also a pepper and liquorice character on the finish
