An expert's opinion

Time to pay a visit to the scenic Lalande-de-Pomerol, home of some of Bordeaux's most cherished vines. Next to the famous appellation of Pomerol, it's not surprising to find a similar elegance and finesse in the wines here, especially as many Chateaux have interests in both regions. The interesting difference about this wine is the inclusion of a significant amount of the rare Petit Verdot, giving this wine a particularly floral and spicy character!

Jean-Michel Deluc. Head Sommelier of Petit Ballon.
The estate

Château des Annereaux

This estate dates back to the 14th century, and has to this day stayed within the family. A pioneer in the fight against phylloxera, a terrible pest that blighted French wine at the end of the 19th century, the estate has also led the charge with organic viticulture over the last decade. Benjamin has recently taken over the day to day management of the estate from his father, from whom he learnt everything he knows. 25 hectares of vineyards skirt the boundary of the Lalande-de-Pomerol appellation at the place called L'Âne Mort. It is here that this outstanding wine is produced.. According to Benjamin, "when wine is good, it agrees with everything." We couldn't have said it better ourselves!
