An expert's opinion

Mathieu Chatain is a real character.

His wines, and those of Diane de Puymorin, reflect his original personality but also portray his passion for wine and respect for the whole process. "Les Pichounes" is perhaps his most appealing cuvee, a wine to be enjoyed in youth, full of charm, fun and energy. Spicy and crisp yet velvety and soft, this will charm you without you realising it. A perfect wine to open with good friends around a summer barbecue!

Jean-Michel Deluc. Head Sommelier of Petit Ballon.
The estate

Château d'Or et de Gueules

The story of Château d'Or et de Gueules is above all a love story; the story of Mathieu Chatain and Diane de Puymorin. This year marks 20 years since they began this wonderful project together, and during that time they've added to both the domaine and their family, with 5 daughters to hopefully one day take over the reins. These vineyards benefit hugely from the Mediterranean climate, bringing easy charm, ripe fruit and soft tannins to their wines.

  • Eye The wine has a dark, almost black colour with vibrant hints of purple towards the rim. Very attractive and visibly concentrated!

  • Nose On the nose this is very floral with notes of peony, violets and rose petals supported by ripe blackcurrant, blueberry and a touch of bitter orange peel. Complex!

  • Mouth On the palate this is juicy, charming and utterly fun! No pretensions here, just a delicious, easy drinking wine that's hard to keep in the bottle.
