An expert's opinion

It's always a pleasure to rediscover estates that captured my heart in the past! La Roussette de Savoie is the "great" white wine producer of the Chignin Bergeron, without a doubt. At the Château de Mérande, the Genoux family has crafted it beautifully, playing between purity and complexity, minerality and fruit, richness and freshness. This new vintage from 2015 jolted my memory and took me back to the first time I tasted this wine, and my tongue danced with pleasure. We're a long way from the simple white wines so popular today; this is a wine of complexity and grace born out of respect for nature and the land.

The estate

Château de Mérande

What a story! It was on the foundations of the only Gallo-Roman village of Savoy that the Château de Mérande was built in the 10th century. It was abandoned for a long time, but the Genoux family has been continuing its renovation for the last 13 years, continuing the work of their ancestors who tended to their vines in the same area in the 13th century. Here, tradition coexists with modernity and since 2009, the estate is classified as a biodynamic producer. The search for harmony between the winemaker, the terroir and the grape variety is paramount. Legend has it that a treasure is buried in the attic of the Château, however, one thing is certain; there is definitely another one in the bottle!
