An expert's opinion

Everything suffers in this unique terroir. Poor rainfall, scorched earth and hard, rocky ground has led to some very hardy vines indeed! The old, gnarly Carignan and Grenache vines that have survived here give extraordinary depth and intensity, reflecting the difficulty of their growing season. A little Syrah is added for freshness and the results are superb.

Jean-Michel Deluc. Head Sommelier of Petit Ballon.
The estate

Château de Saint-Louis

The heights of Boutenac have been known for their vineyards since Roman times, so it's natural that Chateau de Saint-Louis celebrates this wonderful terroir. Whilst the rocky ground and intense weather make for a true labour of love, meticulous work in the vineyard is rewarded in the glass. No-one is left indifferent after tasting these wines!

  • Eye The wine is a deep, inky colour; almost black! Concentrated, deep and still very young

  • Nose The nose is heady and powerful, with aromas of ripe black fruits, incense, sweet spices and hints of leather and garrigue.
