An expert's opinion

AOP Savennières represents one of the greatest regions for white wines in the entire of France, largely due to Chenin Blanc, the principle grape variety that so wonderfully expresses the local terroir. Damien Laureau guides this to the highest levels, allowing for the elegance and finesse of the grape to shine through. "Les Genêts" charms with its freshness, minerality and clearly defined fruit, so typically of the Loire Valley. It was one of the first wines we had the pleasure to showcase to our family here at Le Petit Ballon and it has been one of our greatest successes. If there's a downside it's that the production is small, so enjoy this delicious 2014 vintage whilst it lasts!

Jean-Michel Deluc. Head Sommelier of Petit Ballon.
The estate

Damien Laureau

Damien Laureau and his wife have owned this estate since 1999 and quickly decided to focus on the vineyards of Savennières and Savennières Roche-aux-Moines. Located south of Angers, this small estate of 8.5 hectares is based on a meticulous work and respectful of the environment. Here vines are looked after through gentle practices.
