An expert's opinion

Whilst Rasteau is famous for sweet red wine, there's a lot of classic dry red made here as well. The terroir is identical and even the same grapes are used! The result is a powerful, characterful red wine that's fruity, floral and a little spicy on the finish. The class of this wine shines through and it's an ideal pairing for rich foods based on red meats and game.

Jean-Michel Deluc. Head Sommelier of Petit Ballon.
The estate

Domaine Grand Nicolet

Jean-Pierre Bertrand loves to show his estate to curious visitors and the most common question is 'Where did all these pebbles come from?'. Large, round stones litter the ground in the vineyards; this is the terroir of Rasteau and intrinsic to the style of the wine. Aided by his team of four, Jean-Pierre is doing wonders, from pruning to manual harvesting, nothing is left to chance!
