An expert's opinion

It's very rare that I score a wine so highly, but here it is! This excellent vintage of Grand Vernet showcases a brilliant balance between some powerful elements. The Grenache, for its fruit and spice, the Syrah for freshness and florality, and the Mourvedre for its wild, gamey nature. Somehow all these elements are in perfect harmony and the result is utterly charming. Young yet already complex and with a wonderful combination of modern wine-making and respect for terroir

Jean-Michel Deluc. Head Sommelier of Petit Ballon.
The estate

Domaine Pélaquié

The Pélaquié family has been growing vines since the 16th century, most recently led by Luc since 1976. Their wines are now renowned and appreciated across the world; in fact one of Luc's greatest moments was the first exportation of his wines to New York in 1990! The quest for quality and transparency is what drives him, and his pride at seeing his wines around the world is deeply infectious.

  • Eye Deep ruby in colour, with the purple flashes of youth and concentration.

  • Nose On the nose the wine is fresh and sappy, with developing aromas of blackberries, blueberries, sweet spices, liquorice and chocolate. Complex!

  • Mouth On the palate the wine is full bodied and fruity at the beginning, softening and becoming more elegant with aeration. The length and structure suggests that this is a wine that will stand the test of time!
