An expert's opinion

Finding top quality Californian Chardonnay that's accessible without a bank loan is a rare occurrence, so I'm delighted to be able to offer you this beauty from Kendall Jackson. The grapes are grown close to the coast which helps them retain acidity and freshness, and the vinification process is akin to that of a white Burgundy. The result is a thirst-quenching, buttery but elegant wine that speaks of its sun-kissed origins.

The estate

Kendall Jackson

In 1974, Jess Jackson purchased an 80-hectare pear and walnut orchard and replanted it with Chardonnay vines in Lake County, just north of Napa Valley. Today, Kendall-Jackson offers small productions of different wines, based on land both along the coast and the mountain range, including some of the very best appellations in California.
