An expert's opinion

This cuvée of Crozes-Hermitage really brings out the best of Syrah; dark fruits, freshness and a wonderful energy. A completely new wine, simply created, aiming to express the beauty of the land and the grapes. I was won over immediately by the balance of freshness and vibrancy with the depth of flavour. Modern and delicious, a wine created in such small quantities as to not be mentioned on the estates website!

The estate

Saint Olive Frères

A recent venture started by siblings in the north of the Rhone Valley in 2014, Saint Olive Frères already has the hallmarks of being a future great estate. Due to the small amounts of land they own at present, the wines are made in tiny quantities, which helps preserve the terroir and also creates an element of exclusivity. They are fulfilling their dream to have the first cellar in Lyon and like the major of this famous town, we've also been completely blown away by the results!

  • Eye A wine with a soft ruby colour, still in the first stages of evolution.

  • Nose On the nose the wine has a complex, powerful aroma. Tobacco, dark fruits, oak, licorice and violets over a strong mineral streak. Very Northern Rhone!

  • Mouth The first impressions on the palate are that of soft, silky tannins and a velvety texture. The fruit comes out strongly and the finish is laced with licorice and mint. Delicious!
