An expert's opinion

This organic beauty is a meeting of two countries; France and Spain. Merlot, hailing from Bordeaux, meets its match in Monastrell (Mourvedre) from the Levante in Spain, specifically around the town of Yecla. Forged by 4 generations of the Candela family on the Mediterranean coast, the wines are charming, full of character with a restrained powerful that's only truly revealed after some time!

Jean-Michel Deluc. Head Sommelier of Petit Ballon.
The estate

Senorio de Barahonda

Imagine yourself in Spain in the 1850s, wandering the meandering streets, with the Mediterranean sunshine gently kissing your skin. Are you there? At this same time, a very young Pedro Candela Soriano was hard at work, producing and selling wine at a very small scale in his hometown of Yecla. 170 years later, his descendants, Antonio and Alfredo, are running the family estate at a much grander scale, producing wines that are increasingly appreciated all across the world!
